Conflicting account numbers given by companies in their return statements for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) refund are delaying payments to the affected companies.
Customs Department (Customs) Director-General Datuk Seri Khazali Ahmad said the refund could not been made within the stipulated period as the department needed to verify the inconsistent account numbers with the companies concerned.
“We had to contact each company through emails and fax to get verification on their claims.
“We needed to double check the GST-03 return statements of each company to make sure there is no false claims.
“There are also some companies which said their claims were for standard supply tax but when they submitted their return statements, the claims for exports,” he told reporters here today.
To date, 380,313 companies and entities have registered for the GST and 64,864 companies have submitted the GST-03 return statements as of June.
